Boulder World Cup, Kitzbühel 2013

WC_KITZBUEHEL_Banner

Kitzbühel, a small town in the Austrian federal state of Tyrol, will host the third IFSC Bouldering World Cup of the season.

Climbing is huge in Austria and its bouldering team has had impressive results in the first two World Cups. We can expect a large and committed crowd in the Mercedes Benz Sportpark of Kitzbühel.

Tyrolean Anna Stöhr leads the overall female ranking with two victories while her teammates Kilian Fischhuber and Jakob Schubert are in the top 10 and playing catch-up with Russian Dmitrii Sharafutdinov.

The male category is getting really interesting, a lot of strong climbers competing for just 6 places in finals. I wouldn’t dare making predictions.

On the female side three women seem to be one step ahead: Stöhr, Noguchi and Coxsey. But a number of talented boulderers lurk nearby (Puccio, Oda, Wurm, Saurwein, Markovic, Le Neve, Sandoz…). My palms are already sweaty!

Remember that the entire competition will be streamed live at ifsc-climbing.org

Participants
All the big names that we saw in Millau (minus Jain Kim, with problems on her knee) will be in Kitzbühel. Basically the same starting list plus some solid climbers like Anthony Gullsten, Stefan Danker or Mauricio Huerta.

Since Austria is hosting, their team is adding some well-known boulderers to its lines (Guntram Jörg, Mario Lechner, Barbara Bacher…)

Finally, the current Female Bouldering World Champion, Mélanie Sandoz, from France, will be competing after a break due to injury. We are looking forward to see her back on the wall.

You can check the entire starting list here.

Route setters
Chief route setter: Percy Bishton from the UK.
Bisthon was the setter in World Cups such as Log-Dragomer 2011 or Vail 2012. You can read an interview with him at planetfear.com.
